Expedition Performance
The Expedition comes standard with a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost® V6 engine that delivers 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The Platinum trim receives an uprated version that delivers 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with a slick 10-speed automatic transmission.
On the road, the Expedition handles well and offers agility that belies its size. It tackles turns with composure and glides over road imperfections to ensure passenger comfort. With its 9.8 inches of ground clearance, the Expedition is capable off road. You can add plenty of off-road-oriented features as well, such as a limited-slip differential, skid plates, and off-road shocks. Properly equipped, the Expedition can tow up to 9,300 pounds.
Expedition Interior Space and Comfort
The Expedition provides two rows of seats and space for five people in the base model. For every other model, the cabin has three rows and capacity for eight people. If you choose to swap the second-row bench for captain’s chairs, you can fit seven people. Cloth upholstery is standard, but you can upgrade with faux and genuine leather, heated and ventilated seats, massaging seats, and a heated steering wheel.
With the standard Expedition, the cargo hold offers 19.3 cubic feet of space or 20.9 cubic feet of space, depending on the way you configure the seats. With the third-row seats folded down, that space opens from 57.5 cubic feet to 63.6 cubic feet. The total cargo volume is 104.6 cubic feet with all the rear seats folded. The extended-wheelbase model offers a total of 121.5 cubic feet, with 79.6 cubic feet of space behind the second row and 36 cubic feet behind the third row.
Expedition Safety and Technology
The SYNC® 3 infotainment system comes standard with the Expedition and offers a straightforward, easy-to-use interface. Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ are included, presenting you with the option to stream music and media through the onboard system. An 8-inch touchscreen and a built-in Wi-Fi hot spot are also standard, while wireless device charging, navigation, rear-seat entertainment systems, and satellite radio are optional.
A host of advanced safety features come standard with the Expedition, including automatic high-beam headlights for low-light situations, forward-collision warning to alert you to frontal crashes, and lane-keep assist to keep you centered in your lane. Parking sensors, park assist, and adaptive cruise control, a feature that adjusts your speed to remain with the movement of traffic, are available.
