What engines are brought in with the 2020 Explorer?

Ford has been at the forefront of powertrain design with the SUV class in mind, and it shows with the Explorer’s kit of engine options. Starting off standard with the Base, XLT, and Limited trim models is a formidable 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine that can produce an impressive 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. This starting engine outproduces most other base engines offered in other SUVs while earning a 28 mpg fuel economy rating while on the highway! If you are looking for some additional power potential, Ford offers two variations of a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine. With the Platinum trim, this twin-turbo V6 can produce up to 365 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque while with the ST tuned trim model we see 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. Each engine comes attached to an eight-speed automatic transmission and a choice between a rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configuration. Ford also offers a hybrid 3.3-liter V6 matched with an electric motor that can produce upwards of 318 horsepower and 322 lb-ft of torque potential.

What features are added in with each trim model?

With the Explorer Ford offers five different trim models to select from; the Explorer Base trim level offers an impressive inclusion of features, directly establishing the Explorer as a comfortable mid-size SUV. Some of the key features brought in that caught our eye include dual-zone automatic temperature control, an easy to open power liftgate, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, one-touch power windows, and split-folding 2nd and 3rd-row seats for a multitude of configurations based on the cargo you are transporting. Each Explorer also comes fully equipped with an infotainment system housed on an 8-inch touchscreen display that includes multiple USB ports, smartphone integration, six-speaker audio system, and a rearview camera. The XLT is the second trim model offered that incorporates all of the features from the base model while also adding on roof rails, keyless entry with push-button engine start, an acoustic windshield, premium cloth upholstery set, leather-wrapped steering wheel, additional USB ports throughout the interior cabin, added lumbar support to the front seats, and more. The Limited trim offers an optional hybrid powertrain, while also adding on a hands-free power liftgate with foot activation, convenient interior LED ambient lights, position memory settings with the driver’s seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, larger 20-inch wheels, power-adjustable second/third-row seats, and heated front/second-row seats. If you are looking for fast acceleration and intense power output, the ST sports-tuned trim model is the right one for you; with a sport-themed interior design and tuned systems, you will experience responsive controls and fast-paced acceleration. The Platinum trim is the highest model level offered with the Explorer adding on adaptive headlights with cornering, a scenic dual-pane sunroof, a premium interior leather upholstery, and unique interior/exterior design elements.

What safety and security-based features are added in with the Explorer?

Ford kicks off its 2020 models with an impressive depth of features that incorporate the latest safety and security technologies. Coming with each 2020 Explorer are safety features such as an individual tire pressure monitoring system, traction control support with roll stability control support, an optional terrain management system with selectable terrain settings, trailer sway control, and an advanced front airbag system with supplemental airbags throughout the interior cabin.
