About Mount Airy Maryland

Mount Airy is a town located inside both Frederick and Carroll counties in Maryland. The area was first settled in 1830. Henry Bussard built the first couple of houses in the settlement along Parr's Ridge. The name Mount Airy was inspired by a Baltimore and Ohio Railroad worker who complained about his cold ears on a windy workday. Mount Airy finally became incorporated as a town in 1894. Bryon S. Dorsey was the first mayor of Mount Airy. Bryon went on to serve in that office for ten years. The Mount Airy Historic District, along with the railroad station are apart of the National Register of Historic Places. Notable people who have called Mount Airy home over the years include Rob Havenstein, John M. Gaver, Sr., and Josh Boone.
